Who can safely have teeth whitening by White Smile Professionals?
Anyone 15 years and older who is in good health and who’s teeth are free of decay and calculus (tartar). Professional teeth whitening is not recommended for pregnant or lactating women due to the lack of studies validating the potential effects of whitening on pregnant or lactating women.
Professional whitening is also not recommended for diabetics or severely immunocompromised patients due to their delayed healing ability should they have a potential reaction to the gel.
Does teeth whitening work on everyone?
Yellow staining from ageing, tobacco, cola, tea, coffee and red wine will achieve the greatest success with these procedures. Patients with grey shading due to tetracycline staining may experience less dramatic results; however, these patients will gain some whitening improvement, especially over time. Patients with severe staining should consider using both the Zoom! Advanced power whitening procedure in combination with the take home kits to achieve the maximum results in the shortest period of time.
Will the procedure whiten my existing fillings/crowns/veneers? Unfortunately whitening treatments cannot change the original colour of fillings, crowns or veneers and if you do decide to proceed with the whitening procedure, these restorations may need to be replaced to match the shade of your newly whitened teeth.
Do I need to have a cleaning done first?
Studies show that whitening procedures work best when performed after a professional cleaning by a dentist who can remove all the staining and plaque/calculus.
I have had Botox, can I use the Zoom! Power Whitening system?
If you have had Botox or Restalyn placed in the facial area, we recommend consulting your medical doctor or the physician who performed the procedure before moving forward with a whitening procedure. When proper isolation is performed, there should be no light on the lip or other facial tissues. However, if you are concerned about possible effects from the Zoom! Power Whitening procedure, then we recommend the take home kit.
How often can I use Zoom! Power Whitening system?
There are no known limitations of the number of Zoom! Power Whitening procedures a patient can undergo. However, added Zoom! Power Whitening sessions do not necessarily yield better or whiter results.
How soon after the Zoom! Procedure can I use my ‘touch-up’ gel?
You may use your touch up gel within 24 hours, depending on your sensitivity to the initial procedure.
How soon after the Zoom! Power Whitening procedure can I use it again?
Seven days is the recommended guideline between procedures. However, it must be noted that increased sensitivity may be experienced with the following procedure. If you decide to undertake Zoom! Power Whitening again a week later, it is recommended you wear the relief gel for 30 minutes or more a day during the week between procedures. White Smile Professionals recommends that you consider using one of our take home kit instead of a second Zoom! Power Whitening procedure if you’d like your teeth whitened again relatively soon after your Zoom! Power Whitening appointment.
Are there any side effects?
Sensitivity may occur during the treatment as well as for several days to a week following the procedure. The Zoom! light generates a slight heat which some patients may find uncomfortable. On rare occasions, minor tingling sensations are experienced immediately after the procedure, but will soon dissipate. Using a de-sensitising toothpaste for 2 weeks prior to treatment can help prevent any sensitivity.
How long will my teeth stay white?
By following our simple after-care instructions, your teeth will be up to six times whiter and brighter than they were before the whitening procedure. Most people find they may need a touch up in 1-3 years. However, some patients find that they never need a touch up! With touch ups, a day is needed for every week you initially spent whitening your teeth.
